From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, demons, and dark forces growing in strength within the city.
Warning: Revealing details for the third episode of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Warrior Group Introduced
The latest chapter ended with a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of characters who will split off from the main group to embark on their own adventure, apart from the remaining groups.
The combat-focused team features Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
With an extensive roster, it was evident from the outset that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.
That’s why, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Prelude, intertwining the characters’ stories before branching into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who prefer a typically action-packed battle-oriented narrative style where peaceful solutions are scarce.
Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might seem out of place, but the events of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death initiated the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his own means, breaking into the secret base, striking the character, and swiping all the powerful objects to dispose of.
The traitor then settled his liabilities and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, above the city, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each adventurer has a personal reason to leave the city the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, seeks vengeance.
- The adventurer is familiar with the region and warns that it is a nasty environment.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having disobeyed his house’s orders to eliminate Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their status as key figures in the influential clan could help the team enter places they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, The fighter vowed a eternal obligation to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him anywhere.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are sought by the rulers that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally too risky:
- Thimble and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and The cleric turned against the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by the clan.
This leaves them little choice but to travel to Timmony in search of Casimir.
Future Episodes
From episode three’s Cooldown, we find out that the combat party will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the participants to assemble the Seekers and Planners groups.
Viewers can look forward to learning which adventurers will be where in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, released on next week.
