It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story movie debuted, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.

In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the storyline but keeping viewers wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang

The preview reveals the young girl — who received the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is what Woody is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a carnival and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Certainly, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. The clip displays the badge pinned to her shirt.

Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.
